End of Year Message from Nootka PAC

As the school year comes to an end, we’d like to take this time to remind you of the benefits of a healthy and active Parent Advisory Council (PAC).

We are very fortunate in that we currently have over $15,000 at our disposal to fund curricular and extracurricular activities for our students. Compared to other schools, our bank account is full and our fundraising efforts are minimal. Over the years, we have been able to fund many programs and supplies that would otherwise not have been available to our students through standard school funds. You may or may not know that many of the benefits provided to your children do not come the district, but from the PAC. For this year alone, the breakdown of PAC vs school funds is as follows:

Project PAC Funds School Funds
Classroom Supplies

$4,750

$4,750

Guided Reading

$3,600

$500

Physical Education

$1,300

$300

Fieldtrips

Music

Sensory Learning

Hip Hop Lessons & Performances

$4,000

As you can see, most of these projects would be significantly underfunded and many would not even exist if it were not for the Nootka PAC. Every year the Nootka PAC receives approximately $8,000 from the BC Confederation of PACs. As a condition of receiving this money, the Nootka PAC must have an Executive Board. This money represents a large portion of our overall funds and enables us to provide our students with many opportunities without the need for aggressive fundraising. As such, we are not looking for help with fundraising, but rather help with general PAC operations.

Many of our current PAC Executives are parents of Grade 7 students and will be leaving the school at the end of the year. These parents and others have served on the PAC Executive for many years and are looking to take a break from these duties. With this in mind, we are asking that all concerned parents please attend our annual general meeting on Wednesday, May 30th at 6:30 pm in the Nootka Library where we will be determining the future of the Nootka PAC.

If you feel that your has child benefitted from any of this or previous years’ PAC funded programs, please consider volunteering to join the PAC Executive to help keep these programs alive. All positions are open and need to be filled in order for the Nootka PAC to continue to serve our students. Please contact us at nootkapac@gmail.com if you are interested in helping continue the efforts of Nootka PAC.
